Me: Personally
My identity will always be rooted, first and foremost, in Christ. I am a Catholic revert who walked away during college to "do whatever I wanted without guilt" - and guess how that worked out?! When I met my cradle-Catholic husband in grad school, I came home to the Church and have been falling more and more in love with Catholicism ever since.
My husband and I are both California natives, but in 2023 we put down roots in the Orlando, Florida area so my husband could start his career as a Walt Disney World Cast Member. We have three dogs and a conure, and we pray for human little ones someday soon!
When we're not working or worshipping, you can probably find us reading, drinking coffee, heading to the beach, strolling around Disney Springs to sample all the great food, visiting a Disney World park, or playing Villainous together.
Me: Professionally
I've always loved storytelling and exploring the world through language. I've consumed the written word for as long as I can remember. When I started college and had a rough time, I called my mom and cried to her on the phone. "I want to drop out of college, travel the world, and be a writer!" I told her.
"No," she said. "No, you're not going to drop out. But... why don't you just study writing?"
So, I did. I transferred schools, moved back home, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Saint Mary's College of California. When it came time to graduate, I wasn't quite ready for the Big World so I jumped into a graduate degree at NYU. I moved to New York City with a couple of friends and immersed myself in an academic world filled with people who were so well-read, so intelligent, so thoughtful, that it was invigorating.
I finished my Master of Arts degree in English and American Literature during the beginning of COVID. I decided I wanted to teach, so that I could pass on my love of English to the next generation. I believed that I could convince them that language was the key to the world, that language skills would help them thrive in any business or academic endeavor they could dream of. I taught virtually for that first year of COVID: 7th grade English for Greenville County Schools in South Carolina. The next year, I entered the "real life" classroom and taught in-person for two years of 6th grade English.
I've never stopped believing all of those things about the English language... but I burned out of teaching. So, in the summer of 2023, I switched tracks. I joined the "private sector" as a staff writer for a leading personal finances advice website.
Since making the switch away from teaching in 2023, I've launched a freelance career creating marketing materials for Catholic companies like Veils by Lily, VMR Communications, and many more. I've edited manuscripts such as The Unlikely Heroes by Andrew Dimond, and I've put my proofreading skills to the test in digital media through my freelancing work.
I've written fiction and non-fiction, edited novels and proofread websites... I've spent over a decade emersed in the English language in so many different forms. From the classroom to the computer, I can confidently say that I have the skills and expertise to bring your company's vision to life through the written word!
Why hire me?
For the copywriters & businesses…
Copywriters create persuasive writing materials that businesses can use to bring in new customers, strengthen bonds with existing customers, or even communicate with employees internally. If you can read it, a copywriter probably wrote it. A proofreader checked the grammar and an editor guided the final vision. And that's where I come in.
Human touch…
When you hire me as your proofreader, editor, wordsmith extraordinaire, you will be getting personalized attention, hands-on sweat equity, and Christian values. Can you confidently say that a marketing firm or AI platform you find online will praise God publicly, defend life and the sanctity of marriage, and take Sundays off to keep the Lord's Day holy? Can you confidently say that a marketing firm or AI platform will charge fair prices for honest work that directly supports a small Christian family? Can you confidently say that a marketing firm will give you one-on-one attention from start to finish so that your final product is perfect, down to the smallest detail? Or that AI cares about you and your book’s or business' success?
I doubt it. But if you hire me, you can count on all of that being true. I want to work with Christian authors & small businesses because I'm a Christian small business. I want you to succeed because I want me to succeed. I want to promote Christian values because I want America to thrive and I know that in Christ is all the objective truth and goodness that can save our country.
What I do…
I love to be the resident grammar guru. I can step in on any writing project, at any stage, and polish it up so that it's ready to go. Or maybe you have the bare bones of an idea and you need to get it across the finish line? I'm the editor for the job. As an editor, I'm thinking big-picture. As a proofreader, I'm getting down in the nitty-gritty details.
Take a load off!
We all know that small business owners work 24/7. Just the time spent promoting your brand is mind-blowing! The last thing you need is to add yet another thing to your plate when it's time to create those oh-so-important marketing materials.
And authors have more than enough to worry about: character development, compelling plots, creative settings, navigating the publishing process, marketing the finished book…
Why not take a load off your plate and put the responsibility on me? Then you can get back to the good stuff: creating the book your reader are yearning to read!
